I loved watching how this science activity led to all kinds of theories and predictions- such an awesome, hands-on experiment that the kids just had a blast with! We can’t wait to try all the others! Where to Buy The Curious Kid’s Science Book Theo decided to try launching more than one pom pom at the same time to see what would happen. Lucy wondered what would happen if she moved the spoon further out from the catapult. The kids started out by using the catapults over and over. They had a blast launching pom poms all over the backyard using their homemade catapults!Īfter a while they started coming up with new things to try. Release the spoon to launch your pom pom! Hold the catapult with one hand, and use the other hand to pull the spoon down. Rubber band a spoon to the upper popsicle stick.ħ. Rubber band the stack of popsicle sticks to just the upper popsicle stick.ĥ. Pull the two popsicle sticks slightly apart and place the larger stack of popsicle sticks in between them.Ĥ. Rubberband them together on just one end.ģ. Take two additional popsicle sticks and stack them together. Make a stack of popsicle sticks and rubber band them together on each end.Ģ. *We painted our craft sticks ahead of time (with our favorite tempera paint), because the kids just love to paint! But, you can also buy craft sticks that are already colored or just use plain craft sticks.ġ. Both Theo (age 4) and Lucy (age 7) were enthralled with the activity and came up with all kinds of theories and predictions when using the catapults! Materials for Popsicle Stick Catapultsĭirections for Making Popsicle Stick Catapults I was absolutely thrilled to see all the learning that took place with this science activity. One of the first science activities my kids wanted to try from the book was making popsicle stick catapults. This is definitely a high-quaility, must-own STEM resource for educators and parents! And, I absolutely love how The Curious Kid’s Science Book includes ways to extend the learning of each activity, as well as provides questions to promote even more critical thinking. Not only is every activity in the book an amazing learning experience, but what makes this science resource really stand out is how the science experiments actually promote inquiry and scientific thinking. The Curious Kid’s Science Book is packed with over 100 quality science activities for children ages 4-8. I knew after trying out all kinds of cool kids’ activities from Asia Citro’s first book, 150+ Screen-Free Activities for Kids, that her newest book centered around science was going to be an absolute hit! All thoughts and opinions are definitely my own. The craft stick catapults were super fun and a great learning experience for both my preschooler and 2nd grader! And, after reading through The Curious Kid’s Science Book, we’ve got many more science activities we can’t wait to try!ĭisclosure: I was sent a complimentary copy of this book to review. You can order Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction: Build Implements of Spitball Warfare from Amazon.Recently the kids and I made popsicle stick catapults from Asia Citro’s newest book, The Curious Kid’s Science Book. Wrap a penny in a string of paper caps to create a surprisingly impressive “bomb.” Several of the projects even include variations where combatants mount laser pointer sights to their shooters to increase their accuracy. Build a tiny trebuchet from paper clips and a D-cell battery. The 35 devices include catapults, slingshots, minibombs, darts, and combustion shooters. Toy designer John Austin provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for each project, including materials and ammo lists, clear diagrams, and construction tips, for mayhem-loving MacGyvers. We’ve come a long way from the Peashooter Era: with the advent of modern household products and office supplies-binder clips, clothespins, rubber bands, ballpoint pens, toothpicks, paper clips, plastic utensils, and (of course) matches and barbeque lighters-troublemakers of all stripes have the components needed to build an impressive, if somewhat miniaturized, arsenal. This saves you about 6 minutes on your collectible speedrun. A tricky place is Chapter 11 where you must lock 2 Drones into a storage room. Then after finishing the game under 2h load up Chapter 6 (which takes place in same area as Chapter 4) and give him the Music through Chapter Select. Pick up all Music but don’t give it to him. Giving all Sheet Music to Morusque in Chapter 4 is also a major time eater, because he must finish playing one song before you can give him the next (the whole process wastes about 6 minutes). If you get hit just continue and come back after the speedrun via Chapter Select. Not being hit by any Zurks in Chapter 2 is a bit tricky, don’t waste time on checkpoint restarts if you get hit (it adds to your time). That chapter has a lot of collectibles, if you end up taking a little over 2h (3-5 minutes slower) you can copy back the save and replay from Chapter 10 onward without Collectibles to save 3-5min on your final time, this might be enough to get you under 2h to save another full playthrough. It’s recommended to upload the save to PS+ Cloud/USB at the start of Chapter 10. When you already know how to do everything it can be done in about 1h55min on a perfect run. It’s not worth trying on your first platinum attempt. This is only feasible if you’ve platinumed it before and know the collectible routes perfectly. Luckily the game doesn’t take long and it’s possible to combine everything in 1 single speedrun playthrough under 2 hours. There’s no save transfer or autopop, so if you want to platinum the PS4 + PS5 stacks (or the various regional PS4 stacks such as EU/US/Asia versions) you’ll have to redo all trophies. If you are going for multiple Platinum Stacks: Refer to the trophy description for the times you should have after each chapter. In the Title Screen you can scroll over your save slot to see your current time. If you get stuck anywhere for too long you can copy back the save. Make a manual backup save in the PS+ Cloud / USB every 1-2 chapters. Pausing the game doesn’t add to the time. Deaths/Checkpoint Restarts also add to your time so avoid this. Cutscenes can’t be skipped and add to your time. During dialogues smash + to skip through them quickly. Loading times (blackscreens) don’t count towards the time but dialogues do. It can be done in around 1h30min so you have about 30 minutes buffer for smaller mistakes. The 2 hour time limit is quite generous when going only for the main objectives and ignoring everything else. You are allowed to back up your save game in PS+ Cloud or on USB (Console Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data > Console Storage). From the Title Screen start a new game in an empty save slot. The trophy I am Speed requires beating the game in 2 hours or less. With this guide you can expect the first playthrough to take 4-6 hours. There are 67 Collectibles and 12 Chapters total.

Richer installation UI on desktop and mobile. It also makes the install process more familiar because it is similar to the dialogs from app stores. While Chrome will continue to offer the simple install dialogs for installable apps, this bigger UI gives developers space to highlight their web app. This UI is available for mobile from Chrome 94 and for desktop from Chrome 108. With the Richer Install UI web developers have a new opportunity to give their users specific context about their app at install time. Today even the desktop experience is shifting towards offering apps in centralized stores.įor web apps the model is different: users don’t have to visit a centralized app depot to get a web app, by design, not all web experiences are installable, installing an app can differ between platforms and browsers, browsers even have different menus and surfaces to install the app. It’s a shame publisher Ubisoft is unlikely to give this the full reissue treatment, as it’s a stone-cold classic.Users typically get apps, especially platform apps, through app stores, or through downloading a package and installing it. “The simple concept of stacking and combining color-coded units is extrapolated through a beautifully balanced net of rules across five factions and a substantial, 30-hour campaign. “Its battle system can easily rival the likes of Advance Wars for sophistication,” I wrote in my puzzle RPG guide last year. “I spent so many nights on my Xbox 360 with my friends trying to set up the best, undefeatable strategy, playing for just ‘one more duel’ until the sun rose.”Ĭlash of Heroes’ core gameplay involves stacking and combining color-coded units to increase their power and neutralize the attacks of an opposing enemy force. It’s a game design gem,” commented Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert, correctly. “ Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes was one of my favorite games from the era it was originally released in. The game will also be localized for Asian territories for the first time. The original game’s I Am the Boss DLC will be included, along with a brand-new, exclusive multiplayer boss, Euny the Archdruid. (Oddly, there’s to be no Xbox release, although the 2011 Xbox 360 version of the game is still available to buy and play via backwards compatibility.) Promisingly, the developer of the new Definitive Edition is Dotemu, maker of last year’s superb brawler, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and many other great retro rebirths like Windjammers 2 and Streets of Rage 4.ĭotemu has refreshed all of Clash of Heroes’ crisp and characterful anime-inspired artwork for the Definitive Edition, and undertaken a complete rebalancing of the online and offline multiplayer mode. In a surprise announcement, Clash of Heroes is to get a Definitive Edition release this summer, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. Last reissued in a disappointing mobile version 10 years ago, I never expected Clash of Heroes would get another release, especially considering its licensing ties to Might & Magic, Ubisoft’s largely moribund fantasy franchise. My favorite of them all is Capybara’s Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, a genius blend of RPG, battlefield tactics, and brain-teasing color-matching that made its first appearance on Nintendo DS in 2009. I love puzzle RPGs anything that brings puzzle gameplay together with the storytelling and character advancement of role-playing games is a pure win in my book. If you have any feedback, drop me a line or comment below. Maybe things that don’t need to be tested are tested. Maybe the mocks are wrong, there’s too many, etc. It can’t just be “mock all the things” and then you have 100% test coverage, and an application that is bullet proof. Integration testing, the degree of mocking, and overall test strategy has to be thought of a lot. Code gets more and more complicated as applications scale, so being able to isolate inputs and outputs to a function within a system is priceless for unit testing. Believing that life itself was the greatest form of art to ever exist, Dalí incorporated such passion and commitment into his work that eventually, no separation could be found between Dalí the man and Dalí the work. Dalí frequently drew on his own autobiographical and childhood memories, making his works rife with symbolism that included his peculiar fetishes, animal images, and religious emblems.ĭalí’s enigmatic personality and exceptional draftsmanship helped lay his inner dream world bare for all the public to witness, which helped to evolve the concepts of Surrealism. He represented these concepts in a variety of ways, especially through specific symbols that would recur in most works, which displayed his familiarity with them and his combination of psychoanalytical theories over time. The 1948 work, Dali Atomicus, explores the idea of suspension, depicting three flying cats, water thrown from a bucket, an easel, a footstool, and Salvador Dalí apparently suspended in midair Philippe Halsman, Public domain, via Wikimedia CommonsĪs demonstrated within the majority of his paintings, Dalí was obsessed with the themes of eroticism, death, and decay. Frequently taking many brief naps throughout his days, these were said to help Dalí enter a fleeting hyper-associative state, which enabled him to bring together unpredicted associations and concepts in an effortless way. Within the majority of his works, Dalí looked to dreams for inspiration.Īs the ability to dream was an operation conducted by the unconscious mind, Dalí saw sleep as a great tool that could be used to fuel his Surrealist practice. This enabled other artists to begin inserting the personal, the mysterious, and the emotional into their paintings, which allowed truly bizarre and eccentric Surrealist works to be produced. Despite his paintings appearing to be quite absurd at times, Dalí opened up an entirely new avenue of possibilities for Surrealists. This method of accessing seemingly random and illogical knowledge grew in popularity, to the point where other Surrealists began to experiment with Dalí’s approach to artmaking.ĭisplaying a deep fascination with the work conducted by Sigmund Freud, Dalí went on to create a type of visual language that was capable of rendering his dreams and hallucinations in all their glory. His ability to essentially tap into his own unconscious mind in order to control and stimulate the type of delusions he was experiencing, whilst still maintaining a handle on his own sanity, proved to be very impressive. Portrait of Salvador Dalí, taken in Hôtel Meurice, Paris, 1972 Allan warren, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commonsĭalí’s approach to painting delighted the other members of the Surrealist group, in particular its co-founder, Andre Breton. This method allowed Dalí to organize the confusion and delusions he was experiencing whilst in this semi-conscious state, which allowed him to completely reject the world of reality in his Surrealist artworks. This led to him painting in a sort of self-imposed hallucinatory state, which he later labeled as his “paranoiac-critical method”, which he used for the majority of his paintings. Joining the Surrealist group in 1929, Dalí displayed a deep fascination with the idea of subconscious art. His lengthy career also allowed him to experiment with a variety of mediums in addition to painting, which helped develop the type of artworks he was producing. As one of the most versatile artists to come from the 20thcentury, Dalí is remembered as the most famous Surrealist member due to his incredibly flamboyant personality and indisputable technical skills. Spanish artist Salvador Dalí is often thought of as the head of the Surrealist group, as the paintings he produced during the movement stand out as the most noteworthy and celebrated.
